3x1 NYC — pronounced “Three by One” — was launched in SoHo in 2011 by denim designer Scott Morrison. The name comes from denim’s standard weaving construction, the 3x1 Right Hand Twill: we are named after the cloth itself, not after a founder or a city.
Born in New York, made in Italy. Every 3x1 garment is cut, sewn and finished in Italy, in fabrics woven by Italian mills including Candiani — among the finest in the world, and a pioneer of organic, microplastic-free denim. The collection is ready-to-wear premium denim.
3x1 NYC has always drawn a certain kind of denim obsessive — including a few impossible to overlook. LeBron James and Victor Cruz once walked into the brand's New York Denim Bar and walked out with custom-built jeans; Michelle Obama has stepped out in a pair of 3x1 skinny jeans, and Gigi Hadid has made the case for the label's slouchy straight-leg fit on the streets of New York. In 2018, Nike tapped 3x1 — a small SoHo denim atelier, not a sneaker house — to build a limited-edition Air Force 1 in selvedge denim. Stylist Mimi Cuttrell later co-designed a capsule of high-rise, retro-inspired fits, and the label lent its name to UNICEF Next Gen. The headlines changed; the process never did.
